Health care
It is said that 'health is wealth'. But a vast majority of people lack basic health care and awareness on general health & hygiene. Therefore to provide basic health care to the poor and needy, General health checkup camps, eye camps and health awareness programmes are conducted in the target villages.
Many poor people get benefited through such medical camps and people come from a wide area to make use of the opportunity. We believe these programs make a major impact in reducing the illnesses caused by ignorance of basic hygiene by simply showing how people pick up and spread infection and the ways to stop this happening. Scan-India regularly conducts health and eye 'camps' in the local communities to relieve the suffering from many easily treatable illnesses. Health awareness programmes are also conducted to instill the spirit of prevention rather than cure in the community.
Scan-India has also initiated briefly programmes on HIV awareness in the communities. India has the largest HIV infected persons amongst the South East Asian Countries and it spreads mainly among young and reproductive age groups. Millions of productive lives can be saved if the people are properly educated about this killer disease. A variety of programmes ranging from awareness, field publicity campaigns, and documentaries will be taken up to address this problem. There is a proposal to expand our community health programmes to all the remote parts of our region in the near future to reach out to the more needy people.
